Does living in the UAE change the rules for Indians?
It changes where you apply, not whether you need a visa. The European Commission says to apply at the consulate of your main destination and, as a general rule, the one responsible for the country where you legally live. For an Indian with a UAE residence visa, that means a mission in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

Can Indians with a UAE residence visa enter Europe visa-free?
No. India is on the Schengen visa-required list, and UAE residence does not change that. You need a short-stay Schengen visa before you fly.
Where do Indians in the UAE apply for a Schengen visa?
At the visa centre of your main destination country, usually VFS Global or BLS International in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The main destination is where you spend the most days.
How long must my UAE residence visa be valid?
The German Embassy in Abu Dhabi asks for it to be valid at least three months beyond the expiry of the visa you request. Other missions set similar rules, so check your checklist.
How much is the Schengen visa fee from the UAE?
The EU fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12, collected in AED at the current rate. VFS or BLS adds its own service fee.
Do Indians need ETIAS?
No. ETIAS is only for visa-exempt travellers. As a visa holder, your fingerprints and face are recorded in the EES when you cross the border.
