You live in the UAE and will fly from there

You'll stay 30 days or less

Going for work, study or a long stay? Those need a different visa type. See the full Malaysia visa guide.

Does a UAE residence visa change the Malaysia rules?

Indians living in the UAE can enter Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days, because Malaysia exempts Indian citizens until 31 December 2026. Your UAE residence visa isn't needed for entry, but the MDAC arrival card is.

No. Malaysia's Immigration Department (JIM) lists India as a visa-required country but notes that Indian citizens are visa exempt until 31 December 2026. That exemption follows your passport, not where you live. A UAE resident and someone flying from Chennai face the same rules.

Malaysia's Visa Liberalisation Plan set the exemption for Indian and Chinese citizens at up to 30 days per visit. For more destinations that work this way, see our best visa-free destinations for Indian passport holders.

Rules during your stay, and getting back

How long you can stayUp to 30 days
Visa validity30 days (visa-free stay period)
ExtendingA short-term Social Visit Pass is extended only for special reasons, such as illness, accident or war at home. Apply in person at an immigration office with Form IMM.55, evidence and a confirmed return ticket.
Getting back into UAEYour UAE residence visa must be valid on the day you fly back, so check your Emirates ID expiry before you book.
