Other official rules

  • Photo must comply with ICAO standards
  • Also upload a copy of the passport main data page

Do and avoid

Built from the official rules and the rejection reasons the source lists.

Do

  • Photo must comply with ICAO standards
  • Also upload a copy of the passport main data page

Avoid

  • Uploaded image does not comply with ICAO standards
  • Wrong format or over 1 MB ('Required image should be jpg format and file size should be less than 1024 KB')

Worked example: getting the photo right first time

A 35 × 45 mm print at 300 DPI is 413 × 531 pixels. At 600 DPI it is 826 × 1062 pixels. Ask the studio for exactly 35 × 45 mm, not "passport size".

If the file is too big, reduce JPEG quality (about 80–85%) before reducing the pixel size, so the face stays sharp.

How to make your photo in 5 steps

  1. Stand against a plain wall with even light, or visit a photo studio
  2. Crop to 35 × 45 mm
  3. Check the background
  4. Export as JPG (under 1024 KB (1 MB))
  5. Run the Krosz photo checker before you submit
