What a digital nomad visa actually is
A digital nomad visa is a dedicated residence or stay permit that lets you live in a country while working remotely for employers or clients outside that country. It is distinct from a tourist visa, which usually does not permit working — even remote work — legally.
The income threshold is the key test
Most nomad visas set a minimum monthly income you must prove, often via tax returns, client contracts or bank statements. The threshold is meant to confirm you will not need local employment and can support yourself.
How it differs from a work visa
A work visa is for taking a job inside the host country's local economy and usually needs an employer sponsor. A nomad visa is for remote work where your income comes from abroad — confusing the two leads to the wrong application.
