Visa category guide
Healthcare has its own visa pathways because nursing is a regulated profession. For nurses, the destination’s nursing council has to accept you before the immigration authority will. Care-worker routes are separate, lighter on qualifications, and change far more often.

Overview
The nurse pathway runs on two tracks in sequence. Track one is professional: an English test (IELTS Academic or OET), a credential check of your nursing degree and licence, and a competence assessment set by the destination regulator. Track two is immigration: a sponsored work visa for a licensed employer.
The care-worker pathway covers caregivers and support workers who are not registered nurses. These routes depend heavily on government policy. The UK, one of the largest recruiters, closed its care worker and senior care worker route to new overseas applicants from 22 July 2025; only limited in-country arrangements continue until 22 July 2028.
Both pathways attract recruitment fraud. A genuine route always involves a verifiable employer and, for nurses, a real regulator — never a payment for a guaranteed visa.

|---|---|---|

Nursing) with registration in their home country and an overseas job offer. | Professional registration with the destination regulator first, then a sponsored work-visa application, usually online plus biometrics. |
| Care Worker Visa | Caregivers with relevant training or experience and a job offer in a country whose care route is open. | Employer-sponsored work visa; some countries also require a care qualification, skills assessment or language test. |
