Singapore Stopover for Indians Living in Australia: The 96-Hour Visa-Free Transit Explained (2026)

Singapore sits right on the Australia–India route. With a valid Australian visa or PR, an Indian passport holder can usually stop over for up to 96 hours without a Singapore visa. Here's every condition, and when you still need a visa.

Melbourne–Singapore–Delhi is one of the most common routes for Indians in Australia. Many don't realise they can step out and spend a few days in Singapore without applying for a visa.

The rule: Indian nationals in transit to or from a third country via Singapore can enter for up to 96 hours under the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) if they hold a valid visa or long-term pass from Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK or the US, valid for at least 1 month from the day they enter Singapore, plus an onward ticket leaving within 96 hours.

Every condition, in plain English

  1. You must be in transit. Singapore can't be your final destination: Australia to India via Singapore works; a Singapore holiday doesn't.
  2. Your Australian visa or PR must be valid for at least 1 month from the date you enter Singapore.
  3. You need a confirmed onward ticket (air, ferry or cruise) leaving Singapore within 96 hours.
  4. You leave by air or sea.
  5. No extensions. 96 hours means 96 hours.

Single-journey visas have a special rule: you may still get VFTF on the return leg straight home, even after the visa is used, if you haven't been home in between.
