Bali Visa for Indians Living in the US: e-VOA, Tourist Levy and H-1B Re-entry (2026)

Bali from the US is a long trip, so get the paperwork right. Indians need Indonesia's visa on arrival (best done online as an e-VOA), Bali charges a separate tourist levy, and your US visa decides how easily you get home.

Bali is one of the most popular long-haul holidays for Indians in America, often combined with Singapore or Kuala Lumpur on the way. Here's how the visa works when you hold an Indian passport but live in the US.

The answer: Indonesia doesn't offer Indians visa-free entry, and your green card or H-1B doesn't change that. You need Indonesia's visa on arrival (VOA), which you can buy online in advance as an e-VOA, plus Bali's IDR 150,000 tourist levy.

e-VOA, VOA or tourist e-visa?

We recommend the e-VOA: you pay online before you leave the US and skip the visa queue after a 20-hour journey. Indonesia announced a fee rise in August 2026 without a start date, so check the price when you apply.

What you need

  • Indian passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with 2 blank pages
  • A digital passport photo and a scan of your passport page
  • A return or onward ticket out of Indonesia
  • Your hotel address in Bali
  • Payment for the e-VOA and the tourist levy (pay the levy at the official Love Bali site)
  • The All Indonesia arrival declaration, filled in before landing

Flying back to the US: check this first

Bali trips are long, which means more time for a US document to expire while you're away.

  • H-1B: your visa stamp must be valid on the day you fly back. If it isn't, you'll need a US consulate appointment, often in India.
  • F-1 / OPT: carry your I-20 with a recent travel signature, plus your EAD and job letter if you're on OPT.
  • Green card: carry the physical card; it must be valid.

Connecting through Singapore on the way? Your valid US visa can also unlock Singapore's 96-hour visa-free transit for Indians, if you meet its conditions.
