Armenia Visa for Indians Living in the UAE: Visa-Free With Your Residence Permit (2026)

Until 1 July 2027, Indians with a UAE residence permit valid for six more months can enter Armenia without a visa for up to 180 days a year. If yours is shorter, the border visa and e-visa still work.

You live in Abu Dhabi, Yerevan is a three-and-a-half-hour flight, and a friend says Indians in the Gulf no longer need a visa for Armenia. Another says you still need an e-visa. For 2026 and most of 2027, your friend with the good news is right, as long as your residence permit clears one test.

Short answer: from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027, Indian nationals holding a UAE residence permit valid for at least six months from the date of entry can enter Armenia without a visa and stay up to 180 days within a year.

Does a UAE residence permit make Armenia visa-free for Indians?

Yes, for now. Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced a temporary visa exemption for nationals of 111 countries, and India is on that list. It covers holders of a valid residence permit issued by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, the USA, or an EU or Schengen state.

The exact conditions:

  • Your residence permit must be valid for at least six months from the day you enter Armenia.
  • It must be shown as a physical card or a sticker in your passport.
  • The border authorities may recognise it if it shows, in Latin script, the document's title, your name, surname and nationality, your date of birth and its validity dates.
  • You can stay up to 180 days within a one-year period.
  • The exemption runs from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027 only.

For most UAE residents, the physical card is the Emirates ID. Carry it, and keep a copy of your residence visa details on your phone in case the officer asks.

This is one of the clearest cases of residency changing the rules for an Indian passport. See passport vs residency visa rules for NRIs for how other countries compare.

What if your permit has less than six months left?

You fall back on Armenia's standard rules for Indian ordinary passports, which still treat Gulf residency as a plus. According to the Foreign Ministry, Indians can get a visa:

  1. At the Armenian border, by showing a valid residence permit (physical card or sticker) issued by the UAE or another GCC state, or a valid residence permit or visa from the EU, Schengen states, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia or Japan.
  2. Through the e-visa system, with travel medical insurance and a valid UAE residence permit, or otherwise with insurance, a return ticket reservation, an invitation and proof of funds.
  3. At an Armenian embassy, with a full document set including an invitation and bank statements.

Your passport must be valid for your entire stay in Armenia. The ministry recommends the e-visa, and the e-visa portal notes that you should check a visa office operates at the border point you use.

How does the Armenian e-visa work?

  • Apply only at evisa.mfa.am, the Foreign Ministry's portal.
  • Short stay up to 21 days: USD 8. Long stay up to 120 days: USD 39. Fees are non-refundable.
  • Processing is normally 3 working days, counted from the next business day after you submit.
  • Pay by card or PayPal through the e-payments system.
  • An approved e-visa needs no sticker at the embassy or border.

Mistakes that get UAE residents refused

  1. Counting validity from today, not from the entry date. Six months must remain on the day you land in Yerevan.
  2. Showing only a screenshot of an e-visa residence record. The exemption asks for a physical card or a sticker.
  3. Planning a trip after 1 July 2027 on the exemption without checking whether Armenia has extended it.
  4. Skipping insurance on the e-visa route. Travel medical insurance is a mandatory document there.
  5. Mismatched details. E-visa data that differs from your passport can lead to refusal at the border.

More common pitfalls are in visa rejection reasons for Indian applicants.

What do you need to get back into the UAE?

Your UAE residence visa must be valid when you return, and your Emirates ID should match it. Remember that Armenia's 180-day allowance is longer than the UAE's own limit: a residence visa is cancelled automatically if you stay outside the UAE for more than 180 days in a row, unless an exception applies. Do not use Armenia's full allowance in one stretch.
